Facts about Billy Sims and the Detroit Lions

Here are some facts about Billy Sims and the Detroit Lions:
  • Billy Sims won the Heisman Trophy in 1978. The Heisman Trophy is awarded each year to the most outstanding player in college football.
  • Billy Sims fumbled in the 4th quarter of the 1978 Oklahoma-Nebraska game, thus costing his team a chance to win the national championship that year.

  • Billy Sims was the number one pick in the 1980 draft and was also the 1980 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year. Due to injuries, however, Billy Sims only played five NFL seasons.
  • Billy Sims is not the greatest Detroit Lions running back of all time. The greatest Detroit Lions running back of all time is Barry Sanders.
  • Billy Sims has been accused of celebrating too enthusiastically when other University of Oklahoma players win the Heisman Trophy.
  • Billy Sims is currently part owner of a chain of barbeque restaurants in Oklahoma.
